It is simply trusting Jesus for that for which He offers Himself. It is just taking Him at His word: I will not leave you comfortless, or orphaned; I will come to you. And what He means by this assurance, that is, in what way He will redeem it, He explains subsequently: I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter; even the Spirit of "But what is faith?
He will guide you into all truth. He will show you things to come. He shall receive of Mine and shall show it unto you.
All things that the Father hath are Mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of Mine, and shall show it unto you. These differences will become more and more palpable to you. And you will discover that the greatest of all differences are traceable to the more or less heed paid by them to this great fundamental reaching of our Lord. To as many as receive Him, and this teaching from Him, He gives power to become the sons of God; to enter into the filial relation; a relation infinitely nearer, sweeter, and more controlling, than that of the merely conscientious servant, however conscientious he may be.
