Alastair Lamb graduated from the University of Cambridge. Later he was a Professor of History at the University of Ghana — He was a Reader of History at Hatfield Polytechnic during the s. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London. Lamb has stated that he came across a number of documents in the archive which looked "rather different" from the versions published by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
